On Thursday morning prior to the Spanish GP, the city of Jerez honored nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) and Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta in the first edition of the prestigious ceremony, for their valuable contributions to motorcycle racing and to the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship. In addition, a tribute to MotoGP™ Legend Angel Nieto was made, by renaming the Jerez circuit, while also unveiling of a sculpture in his memory. The awards were presented by Mamen Sanchez Diaz, Mayor of Jerez de la Frontera, in the Jerez Press Conference Room.

Rossi has won more times than any other rider (9) at ‘La Catedral’, as it’s known to Spanish motorcycle racing fanatics. The Jerez track, which is steeped in motorsport history, is a mecca for Spanish motorcycling, with the circuit attracting over 200,000 jubilant MotoGP™ enthusiast’s every year.
