Yamaha have been an exception amongst the Japanese MotoGP™ manufacturers for some time but the Iwata marque have confirmed to World Feed pitlane reporter Simon Crafar that they will have a European-based test team from 2019, bringing them in line with key competitors Honda and Suzuki.
Asked about the possibility, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team Director Massimo Meregalli was unequivocal: “It’s something we’re working on, and next year we will have a European test team. It’s just been approved, and you’ll know more soon.”
We’ll have to wait to find out the details, then – including any riders involved – but with the likes of 2011 Moto2™ World Champion testing for Honda and 2014 WorldSBK Champion Sylvain Guintoli on track for Suzuki, it will be an interesting revelation.
