The ADAC has something new to offer youngsters keen to start out in motorcycle racing: the newly introduced ADAC Road Racing Academy will make it possible for children and teenagers aged from six to 18 learn about motorcycle racing in a straightforward manner and at reasonable expense. Under the supervision of experienced, licensed trainers, girls and boys will be able to gain their first experience of motorcycle racing without any prior knowledge. Motorcycles and equipment will be provided by the ADAC with particular attention being paid to protective clothing for the young riders. The ADAC launched its Road Racing Academy to visitors and media representatives at Leipzig’s motorcycle fair in early February.
Children and teenagers can learn about motorcycle racing in taster courses held at twelve different venues. Riding mini bikes and pocket bikes, girls and boys between the ages of six and 12 will get an introduction to motorcycle racing from professional trainers at kart tracks and practice areas. Expert trainers will be there to explain the motorcycles’ controls and ensure that the youngsters soon feel at ease on their bikes. Trainers will stay with them the whole time during courses to provide assistance.
A one-day taster course with the ADAC Road Racing Academy costs just 80 euros. All participants will be insured by the ADAC. The ADAC and its partners will provide mini bikes and pocket bikes specially selected to suit the various age ranges as well as protective clothing. Motul lubricants and cleaning products will be used throughout. Helmets will come from Nolan. KTM motorbikes will be available for racetrack training.
In the next stage on the programme, aspiring young talents aged 13 and above will be able to train on KTM RC 390 CUP and RC4R motorcycles as used in the new Northern Talent Cup. These courses will also take place at racetracks under the supervision of experienced trainers, but participants must have had some prior experience. Motorcycles will again be provided by the ADAC but all those taking part will be expected to bring along their own riding gear. The racetrack training courses, some of which last several days, cost from 250 euros per day.
Taster courses for 6 to 12 year olds will be offered at 12 centres in all. The ADAC Road Racing Academy will have two permanent bases in Fulda and Mülsen run by the ADAC Hessen-Thüringen and ADAC Sachsen respectively. Mobile centres will be set up at a further ten sites throughout Germany.
