Esponsorama Racing's Johann Zarco battled his way to top spot in Q1 at the BMW M Grand Prix of Styria just days after surgery on a broken right scaphoid and will imminently be joined in the fight for pole position by Ducati Team's Danilo Petrucci.

The Italian's late lap saw him grab the final place inside Q2 at the expense of impressive rookie Iker Lecuona (Red Bull KTM Tech 3). The Spaniard will line-up on the fifth row of the grid for Sunday's Grand Prix of Styria by fellow KTM man Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP), who crashed out, unhurt, at Turn 9 late in the session whilst pushing hard for a top two spot.
