Alex Barros toasts MotoGP's latest winner

Former MotoGP™ race winner Alex Barros took to Instagram to pay tribute to Miguel Oliveira following his dramatic victory in the BMW M Grand Prix of Styria. 

They've come so close so many times before! ????

The retired Brazilian, who claimed three premier class wins during his career, was effusive in his praise for MotoGP™’s latest victor, recalling his final ever victory at Estoril, in Oliveira’s home country of Portugal.

“To my great friend Miguel Oliveira, I have this photo which he sent me one month ago, and I remember this weekend in Estoril well, it was a fantastic weekend for me, just like this one is for you.”

Ao grande amigo, irmão @migueloliveira44, tenho está foto que ele me mandou a 1 mês atrás e lembro bem deste final de semana em Estoril que foi um final de semana fantástico para mim assim como foi este agora para vc. Lembro de te visitar lá atrás dos boxes e conhecer vc e seu pai correndo de Metrakit, e conversamos bastante e gostei muito de ver um piloto português que afinal de contas eu tenho sangue também (já que meu pai Antônio Barros é português) e ver vc ganhando no sábado a corrida com 11 anos. De lá para cá vc foi conquistando seu espaço como muita luta e sacrifícios, muita muita dedicação para conseguir uma vaga na estrutura da equipe Red Bull, e de lá para cá começaste a conseguir grandes resultados! Nós no Brasil estamos muito feliz e orgulhosos de ver um piloto que sentimos ser nosso irmão a ganhar pra primeira vez e escutar o hino português pela primeira vez na categoria reina!! Parabéns @migueloliveira44 vc fez por merecer e desfrute ao máximo este momento, que Deus continue te guiar e que muitas mais vitória sejam conquistadas! The Portuguese rider broke his country’s duck on the track, becoming the first man from the Iberian country to claim top step on the podium, and Barros was keen to remind people that this win has been years in the making and that the Brazilian race world is right behind him.

“I remember visiting you behind the pits and meeting you and your father from Metrakit (World Festival), and we talked a lot and I really enjoyed seeing a Portuguese driver win the race at the age of 11”

“We in Brazil are very happy and proud to see a pilot that we feel is our brother to win for the first time and listen to the Portuguese anthem for the first time in the winning category!!”
