Lowes quickest in Misano Moto2™ FP1

The SKY Racing Team VR46 duo are the British rider’s closest challengers on Friday morning

A 1:37.245 in Moto2™ FP1 at the Gran Premio Lenovo di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini gave Sam Lowes (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) top spot by over two tenths from World Championship leader Luca Marini (SKY Racing Team VR46). Marini’s teammate and Styrian GP winner Marco Bezzecchi rounded out the top three after the opening session at the Italian’s home race.

At the beginning of the session, the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli caught out some riders. Remy Gardner (Onexox TKKR SAG Team), Augusto Fernandez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) and Marcel Schrötter (Liqui Moly Intact GP) were crashers in the early stages as the Moto2™ field got to grips with the new surface.

Lowes didn’t encounter any troubles though. The British rider will have to start from pitlane for the San Marino GP after his Styrian GP crash, but it was the number 22 who set the pace in the intermediate class from home heroes Marini and Bezzecchi. Despite his early crash, Schrötter finished P4 in FP1, with title contender Enea Bastianini (Italtrans Racing Team) picking up the final top five place – 0.540 back from Lowes’ effort, which was 1.3 seconds faster than Moto2™ FP1 in 2019 at the venue.

Tune in for Moto2™ FP2 at 15:10 (GMT+2) to see who will take Friday honours!
