Ahead of his final MotoGP™ race at the Grande Prémio MEO de Portugal before taking a sabbatical year in 2021, we take a look at Andrea Dovizioso's storied career in numbers:
1 - Andrea Dovizioso will have taken part in 327 of the 956 Grands Prix that have taken place from the creation of the Motorcycle World Championship in 1949 up to his final race this weekend in Portimao. This means he will have participated in 34.1% of all Grands Prix ever to have taken place.
2 - At the Catalan GP in 2019, Dovizioso became the first rider to reach the milestone of 300 successive Grands Prix. The Italian hasn't missed a single race since he started in the 125cc World Championship full-time back in 2002. Sunday's Portuguese Grand Prix will be his 325th consecutive race, bringing to an end a quite incredible streak. His closest rival is Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) with 230 consecutive races.
3 - Dovizioso has the third-longest 'winning period' of all time, behind Valentino Rossi (20 years and 311 days) and Loris Capirossi (17 years and 49 days). 16 years and 120 days separate his first Grand Prix victory in 125cc class (South Africa 2004) and his last triumph in MotoGP™ (Austria 2020).
4 - There are 11 years and 21 days between his first success in the premier class (Donington 2009) and his last (Austria 2020). Only three riders again have a longer timeframe between their first and last victories: Valentino Rossi (16 years and 351 days), Alex Barros (11 years and 204 days) and Dani Pedrosa (11 years and 182 days). Even with victory in Portimao, he won't surpass Pedrosa.
5 - The former 125cc World Champion has finished in the points on 283 occasions so far in his career.
6 - During his career, Andrea Dovizioso has raced at 28 different circuits, 29 once the lights go out in Portimao, and has claimed victory on 16 of them.
7 - The circuits at which he was most successful are Donington Park and the Red Bull Ring, where he has won three times at both.
8 - He has won Grands Prix on four different motorcycles: Honda 125cc, Honda 250cc, Honda 800cc (RC212V) and a Ducati Desmosedici.
9 - He is still sixth on the list of the youngest riders to have won a World Championship in the lightweight class (125cc), claiming his 2005 crown at the age of 18 years and 201 days.
10 - The number 04 is tenth on the all-time list of riders with the most Grand Prix podium finishes with 103, just behind Max Biaggi's 111.
Andrea Dovizioso and Ducati
1 - He is the second most victorious Ducati rider in MotoGP™ history (14 wins), behind the 23 of Casey Stoner. His closest rival is Loris Capirossi who has seven successes with the Bologna factory.
2 - Desmo Dovi is also second on the list for the most podiums with Ducati, having stood on the rostrum 40 times in MotoGP™; which places him just behind Casey Stoner (42 podiums) and ahead of Loris Capirossi (23 podiums).
3 –Andrea Dovizioso is also the driver who has had the most MotoGP™ starts with Ducati, ahead of Hector Barbera (140 against 108).
4 - He is the second when it comes to the most victories in a single season for Ducati, with a total of six triumphs in 2017, just like Casey Stoner in 2008. The Australian on the other hand holds the record with ten successes in 2007, the year he won the title.
