      Pramac Racing’s rookie soared to MotoGP™ pole position in just his second ever race, but now attentions turn to race day

      In his first MotoGP™ Q2 session, Jorge Martin (Pramac Racing) stunned the desert to take a wonderful pole position at the Tissot Grand Prix of Doha. Now though, it’s time to get warmed up for Sunday’s Round 2 under the lights, and here’s 10 stats to help you do exactly that.

      1. Martin has qualified on pole position for the first time in MotoGP™, becoming the first rookie to qualify on pole in his second MotoGP™ race since Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) at the 2013 Americas GP.

      2. Martin became the seventh different polesitter in seven MotoGP™ races; a sequence that started at the Aragon GP last year with Fabio Quartararo followed by Takaaki Nakagami (Teruel), Pol Espargaro (Europe), Franco Morbidelli (Valencia), Miguel Oliveira (Portugal) in 2020 and Francesco Bagnaia (Qatar) last weekend. The last time there were seven different polesitters in seven MotoGP™ races was from the 2002 Pacific GP to the 2003 Spanish GP.

       

      3. With Oliveira in Portugal last year, Bagnaia last weekend and now Martin, this is the first time there are three different riders who take their maiden pole in the class in three successive races since 2006 with Casey Stoner (Qatar), Chris Vermeulen (Turkey) and Dani Pedrosa (China).

      4. With Martin and Zarco, this is the first Ducati 1-2 in qualifying since the 2018 Aragon GP when Jorge Lorenzo was on pole ahead of Andrea Dovizioso.

      5. Winner last weekend, Maverick Viñales (Monster Eergy Yamaha MotoGP) has qualified in third place for the second successive time, and will be aiming to win in back-to-back races for the first time since Qatar and Argentina 2017 – his first two races with Yamaha.

      6. Polesitter last weekend, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) has qualified sixth and will be aiming to stand on the podium for the first time in back-to-back MotoGP™ races.

      7. Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) has qualified seventh, which is the best qualifying result for an Aprilia rider at Losail so far in MotoGP™. He will be aiming to give Aprilia their first top five finish since the introduction of MotoGP™ back in 2002.

      8. 2020 MotoGP™ World Champion Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) passed through Q1 for the 13th time in MotoGP™ and managed to join Q2 for the fourth time along with Catalunya and San Marino in 2019, and Qatar last weekend. He qualified in ninth for his best qualifying since he was fifth at the European GP on his way to take his only MotoGP™ win so far.  

       

      9. Stefan Bradl (Repsol Honda Team) qualified 11th as the highest-placed Honda rider. This is the second time there is no Honda rider inside the top 10 in qualifying in MotoGP™ at Losail, along with last weekend.

      10. Fourth on the grid last weekend, Valentino Rossi (Petronas Yamaha SRT) has qualified 21st, which is his worst qualifying result since he started his Grand Prix career at the Malaysian GP in 125cc – 25 years ago.
