Engines on at Estoril for FIM CEV Repsol 2021

Competition is just around the corner as the Circuito do Estoril hosts the season opener

After a long winter break, it’s finally time to get suited and booted for the 2021 FIM CEV Repsol. The FIM Moto3™ Junior World Championship, the Moto2™ European Championship and the Hawkers European Talent Cup are ready to race and it’s sure to be another incredible season, with everything beginning at the Circuito do Estoril in Portugal.

In the FIM Moto3™ JWCh, the top three from 2020 – and more – have moved into the Grand Prix paddock, and a new name is sure to lift the crown. 32 riders from 13 countries are aiming to do just that, and some of the newer faces have some impressive CVs, including the likes of reigning Hawkers European Talent Cup Champion David Alonso (Aspar Junior Team) and key 2020 rival Zonta van den Goorbergh (Team Super B). Can they make like Izan Guevara last year and take to the top? Alonso won both HETC races at Estoril last season…

Established names like Jose Julian Garcia (SIC58 Squadra Corse); the only race winner left in the field, Daniel Holgado (Aspar Junior Team) and David Salvador (TM Racing Factory Team), the top finishers in 2020 who return this season, will be eager to stop them though, and the likes of Diogo Moreira (Estrella Galicia 0,0) and Takuma Matsuyama (Asia Talent Team) have shown key flashes of pace too. But the Entry List is incredibly deep, with scores of riders looking to take points, get into the top ten or five, and fight for the podium.

In the Moto2™ ECh, meanwhile, a full grid – including twelve Superstock runners – are ready to fight it out for the title. Plenty of familiar – and fast – faces return, with the likes of Lukas Tulovic (Liqui Moly Intact Sic Junior Team) and last year’s fourth overall Taiga Hada (AGR Team) in the mix. Moto3™ World Championship podium finisher Alonso Lopez (Boscoscuro Talent Team-Ciatti) joins the field, and his new teammate is former STK600 winner Fermin Aldeguer (Boscoscuro Talent Team-Ciatti), who was the talk of the recent MotoE™ test with his pace. Can they adapt to Moto2™ machinery and take on the fight at the front?

The Hawkers European Talent Cup promises much in 2021 too. Last year’s top finishers move up to the FIM Moto3™ JWCh and with nearly 50 competitors signed up from across six continents it’s going to prove another incredible battle. Alberto Ferrandez (MT-Foundation 77) and Angel Piqueras (Team Estrella Galicia 0,0) are the top 2020 contenders who return – and both took podiums at Estoril last year. Can they start the year on a high or can the rookies spring a surprise?

There is one FIM Moto3™ JWCh race and two races each for the Moto2™ ECh and HETC this weekend at Estoril. Tune in on Sunday the 25th of April to watch the FIM CEV Repsol roar back into action!
