Rins and Pol Espargaro progress to Q2, Viñales 21st

Delight at the front but utter dejection behind, a tale of two halves for the big names

The Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland at the Sachsenring saw a frantic Q1 which left Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Pol Espargaro (Repsol Honda Team) progress through to Q2. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) marginally missed out, but the biggest news is that Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) will start 21st after a dire day left him with his worst qualifying position in MotoGP™.

In 17th place is Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar), who suffered his worst qualifying of the season. Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT) crashed at the final corner, Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) crashed at Turn 12 and Iker Lecuona (Tech 3 KTM Factory Racing) crashed at Turn 1.
