Torres outguns Granado for E-Pole

The Spanish rider will launch from the head of the grid in Race 1 of the weekend

Jordi Torres (HP Pons 40) ensured he will start the weekend's first MotoE™ race from P1 after he ended E-Pole quickest at the Octo Grand Prix of San Marino. The Spaniard recorded a 1:43.265 to give himself 0.229s over Cup rival Eric Granado (One Energy Racing) in second, while title leader Alessandro Zaccone (Octo Pramac MotoE) will join them on the front row.

The electric class were given 15 minutes and five laps to record a time on Saturday afternoon, with riders adopting different strategies throughout. Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) is still in the hunt for glory this weekend, and the Swiss rider was first out on circuit in the hopes of putting the pressure on the opposition, though strong laps from Mattia Casadei (Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse) and Zaccone meant he was relegated to P3 by the time the final two, Torres and Granado, came out.

The two engaged in an on-track duel to record the fastest time, with Torres taking P1 on his final effort, but all eyes were then on his Brazilian counterpart, who had just jumped into second and had one lap left. Running it tight through the first two sectors, Granado lost time in sector three and couldn’t better his time, meaning the rider known as Spanish Elvis will launch from P1 in Race 1.

MotoE™ will see lights out at 16:20 local time.
