Mandalika Test, Day 3 midday: Pol Espargaro takes charge

The Repsol Honda rider and Quartararo have beaten Marini’s Day 2 time during a busy morning in Indonesia

Repsol Honda Team’s Pol Espargaro is currently looking like leaving the Official MotoGP™ Mandalika Test as the quickest rider, thanks to a 1:31.060 early on Day 3. Reigning World Champion Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) has also beaten Luca Marini’s (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) lap from Day 2, as plenty of laps have been clocked ahead of midday.

There’s a new schedule to look out for because from 13:15-13:45 local time (GMT+8), the track is going to be cleaned. This means the chequered flag to indicate the end of the test will now be shown at 17:00 local time, with the practice start session running from 17:05-17:15.

After a heavy crash on Day 2, Raul Fernandez (Tech3 KTM Factory Racing) has completed just six laps. The Spanish rookie crashed at Turn 10 and upon his return to the box, he didn’t feel very well and after another medical check, it was decided that Fernandez would sit out the remainder of the test.

2020 World Champion Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) has been forced to miss the final day of testing. Just as Fabio Di Giannantonio (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) did in Sepang, Mir is suffering with stomach pain and vomiting, and has been treated with tablets. Clinica Mobile’s Dr. Michele Zasa suspects the Spaniard has a bout of food poisoning and there is no reason to suspect it is Covid-19.

After the Flag will be coming to you live from Barcelona at 09:30 CET, so make sure you tune into that for a full round-up of the Mandalika Test.
