5th pole in 15 for Martin as Round 1 under the lights awaits

Get yourselves set for what promises to be a spectacular show at the Lusail International Circuit

After finishing 2021 with a pole position in Valencia, Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin has kicked off 2022 in the same fashion by claiming P1 in Q2 at the Grand Prix of Qatar. Now, it’s time to get yourselves set for the first premier class race of the season by delving into 10 stats that have emerged from qualifying.

Jorge Martin, Pramac Racing, Grand Prix of Qatar

1. This is Martin’s 5th pole in 15 races. The others were in Doha, Styria, Austria and Valencia.

2. In addition, this is Ducati’s seventh successive pole position in MotoGP™, a sequence that started in Aragon last year, equalling their longest pole sequence from 2008 with Casey Stoner from Catalunya to San Marino.

3. Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) has qualified second for his best qualifying result since he stepped up to MotoGP™ last year, as well as his first front row in the class. He will be aiming to stand on the podium for the third time in the class along with San Marino and Emilia-Romagna last year.

4. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) has qualified third for his first front row since he was also third last year in Austin on his way to winning the race. This is his seventh successive front row in Lusail in MotoGP™. On his six previous front row starts in Qatar, Marquez has finished on the podium four times including a win in 2014 – his only win at the track in MotoGP™.
