Pons fastest in FP1 as MotoE™ returns for 2022

The FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup is back for 2022 and Miquel Pons was fastest in FP1 at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto

Miquel Pons (LCR E-Team) set the pace in the first session of the new MotoE™ season by clocking a 1:52.659 with the chequered flag out at Jerez, which hosts this weekend’s Gran Premio Red Bull de España. The lap put him just 0.023s ahead of Pons Racing 40’s Mattia Casadei, in what was a competitive session at the Spanish track.

For a while, it had been either one of the WithU GRT RNF MotoE™ Team entries at the top of the timing screen. They would end up third and fourth, with Lukas Tulovic setting a best time of 1:53.024 and Niccolo Canepa a 1:53.318.

Kevin Manfredi (Octo Pramac MotoE™) was fifth-fastest at the end of the 20-minute session, which helps to set the starting order for Q1 and Q2 now that MotoE™ has adopted the qualifying format used by the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship classes.

MotoE™ will be back on track later in the day for FP2 at 12.35pm local time.
