The Rivacold Sniper Team’s Andrea Migno has gone fastest in a challenging Moto3™ FP1 at the CryptoDATA Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich. Morning rain left the Red Bull Ring - Spielberg wet for the start of the 40-minute session and it remained damp in places throughout, catching out a number of riders. Migno, however, was at one point more than seven tenths of a second up on the field with the 1:50.378 which would be the fastest lap of the morning, although Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Ajo) closed to 0.269 seconds off the pace with the chequered flag out.
David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports) was the early pace-setter, and he was still top on a 1:52.822 when he highsided at Turn 10 – rider okay. Tatsuki Suzuki (Leopard Racing) briefly took the ascendancy with a 1:52.756 before Izan Guevara reeled off a string of new fastest laps. Guevara is nipping at the heels of fellow AutoSolar GASGAS Aspar Team rider Sergio Garcia at the top of the World Championship but it was the opposite story through the middle portion of Moto3™ FP1 at the Red Bull Ring, until Garcia pulled ahead with a 1:51.248 and then a 1:51.116 around the half-hour mark.

While Garcia and a handful of others had offs at the new Turn 2A/Turn 2B chicane, it was Guevara who slipped and went down on the damp up at Turn 3. He was able to remount, but the spill opened the door initially for Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Tech3) and then Migno to usurp him.
By the time the session was over, it was Migno fastest, from Holgado on a 1:50.647 and Suzuki on a 1:51.084. Öncü’s 1:51.102 left him fourth, and he also managed to save a subsequent highside moment at Turn 3, while Garcia would be classified fifth. Dennis Foggia took seventh with a 1:51.293, after which he immediately pulled his Leopard Racing Honda off the track, while Guevara would be shuffled back to 10th on the 1:51.443 with which he had been fastest.
The lightweight class field is back on track for FP2 later on Friday at 13:15 (GMT +2).
