Quartararo quickest midway through Day 2 of the Misano Test

‘El Diablo’ moves the benchmark as Marc Marquez sets top 10 pace

Just half a day remains in the Official MotoGP™ Misano Test and World Championship leader Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) has moved to the top with a 1:31.116 in the morning session on Day 2, just 0.056 seconds ahead of Day 1 fast man Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), while Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) continues to rack up the laps.

Quartararo has three bikes in his box, as does his team-mate at the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ team, Franco Morbidelli. It is known that one of the latter’s bikes has the new chassis and engine, and Quartararo told us yesterday that the 2023 chassis can be used in Aragon already – meaning this test will be important for his chances of winning back-to-back MotoGP™ crowns.

Over at Honda, Marc Marquez rode in just the morning session on Day 1, but is looking to complete a full day on the bike today – an extremely positive sign for the eight-time World Champion himself and HRC. He also has three bikes in his garage, two of 2022 specification plus one which appears to be more 2023-oriented, with a different chassis and different swingarm. MM93 has completed 34 laps so far today on top of the 39 he rode on Day 1, and moved into the top 10 with a best time of 1:31.642!

In the top three so far today, it’s an even spread of Yamaha, Ducati, and Aprilia, with Aleix Espargaro just 0.073 seconds off the pace of Quartararo so far. That 1:31.189 was on his 14th lap of 39 this morning, before a late crash at Turn 14. Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) also had a spill, at Turn 4 – the same corner which bit him in Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, Team Suzuki Ecstar and Mooney VR46 Racing Team have given themselves an early mark, having completed their testing programme on Day 1.
