Bagnaia on the verge of matching a major Marquez feat

Pecco is a win away from joining some particularly elite company

Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) has won the past four MotoGP™ races in this season and, after he qualified on pole for the Gran Premio Animoca Brands de Aragon, it would take a brave person to bet against him making it five in a row. If Pecco does manage to extend his streak of victories, he would create some very special history. Find out more in 10 things you need to know.

1. Francesco Bagnaia has qualified on pole position for the 11th time in MotoGP™ (setting a new All Time Lap Record at MotorLand Aragon), and the fifth time this season.

2. On Sunday, Bagnaia will be aiming to become the first Ducati rider to take five wins in five successive MotoGP™ races and the first rider to do so of any manufacturer since Marc Marquez in 2019 (from San Marino to Australia).

3. This is Ducati’s 12th pole position of the year, a new record set by the Bologna factory in a single MotoGP™ season.

4. Since 2010, only three riders have won the MotoGP™ race from pole at Aragon: Casey Stoner (2010, 2011), Marc Marquez (2013, 2016, 2019) and Francesco Bagnaia (2021).

5. Thanks to Bagnaia, Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing MotoGP™), this is the 35th successive race with at least one Ducati within the top three in qualifying.

6. After passing through Q1, Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) has qualified fourth, his best qualifying result since he achieved the same in Germany earlier this year. It is also his best qualifying result in MotoGP™ at MotorLand, and he will be aiming to stand on the podium for the first time since Mugello this year (P3).

7. Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) will be aiming to take his maiden MotoGP™ win. His best MotoGP™ result at MotorLand is P5 in 2020 (Teruel GP).

8. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) has qualified sixth and is the first rider on a non-Italian bike. This equals his worst qualifying result in MotoGP™ at MotorLand from 2020 (Teruel GP), and is the fourth successive time that the Frenchman has missed out on the front row of the grid. He still will be aiming to stand on the podium for the first time at Aragon in MotoGP™.

9. Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) has qualified seventh, which is the seventh time he has qualified within the front three rows in his rookie season. He will be aiming for his second MotoGP™ podium, after a P2 at the Dutch TT.

10. Coming back from arm surgery, Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) has qualified 13th, which is his worst qualifying on what is his ninth visit at MotorLand in MotoGP™. He finished second last year for his sixth MotoGP™ podium at MotorLand.
