What's new on the 2023 MotoGP™ calendar?

A new season opener, two circuit and country debuts and a different looking Asian leg of the campaign are all part of next season's plans

After much speculation, we finally know the provisional schedule for the 2023 season. The World Championship is penciled in for 21 rounds, beginning a little bit later than usual in the south of Portugal, ending in late November in the traditional season closer at Valencia, while some new additions see the Championship visit a 30th and 31st country!

There is plenty to dissect from the planned schedule, so without any further ado, here is what’s new with the 2023 MotoGP™ calendar.

First up, we have a new season opener in Portimao. Typically MotoGP™ paid a visit to Qatar and Losail International Circuit or the curtain raiser, but due to works at the circuit, our visit to the gulf nation will come later in the year. That means that the Algarve will host Round 1 at the end of March, with the season getting underway on March 24th.

For the next seven rounds then it’s business as usual, with a visit across the Atlantic followed by more European dates, before MotoGP™ heads to Kazakhstan for the very first time. Sokol International Circuit will see the fastest riders in two-wheeled motorsport hit its tarmac from July 7th, making for what should be a very special event ahead of a three-week summer break.

Once we return, four more European dates await, before the sport breaks new ground once again by heading to India. The 16-corner Buddh International Circuit will host the first-ever motorcycle Grand Prix event in the country, and it without doubt, is going to be an unmissable weekend. Both Grands Prix will of course be subject to homologation.

India will be Round 14 of the campaign and is the first of seven consecutive races in Asia and Oceania, with that stretch of the season coming to a close in Qatar on November 19th. Then, to round off a memorable season will be the traditional closer in Valencia at Circuit Ricardo Tormo from November 24th.
