GASGAS Aspar confirm Guevara for 2023 Moto2™ ride

The Moto3™ World Championship leader will make the step up to the intermediate class next year to partner Dixon

GASGAS Aspar Team have confirmed their current Moto3™ World Championship leader Izan Guevara will make the step up to Moto2™ for 2023.

Guevara arrives in Moto2™ in his third season as a World Championship rider and with a record to date of six victories and a total of 11 podium finishes, 10 of which have been achieved in the 17 2022 races held to date.

Guevara arrived at the Aspar Team in 2020 as the current European Talent Cup Champion. In his first season in the Junior World Championship he won the title with five wins and eight podiums in 11 races, some of them memorable, such the ones in Aragon, where his superiority allowed him to win the three contested races starting from the twenty-second position on the grid.

In 2021 it was time to make the leap to the Moto3™ World Championship with the help of the GASGAS Aspar Team and already in the first race in Qatar the quality of the young Spanish rider began to shine. Guevara finished seventh in an unknown track for him. Little by little the results came in and, after being fourth in Great Britain and in Aragon, in the Circuit of the Americas -another unknown track for him- he achieved his first Moto3 victory.

Guevara confessed at the beginning of 2022 that his goal was going to be the title, although thinking race by race and looking for a regularity that would allow him to reach the end of the season with mathematical options. Wins in Jerez, Barcelona, Germany, Aragon and Japan, along with five more podium finishes, have allowed him to reach the final phase of the season in an enviable position, with a 49-point lead in the general standings.

Jorge Martinez “Aspar”: “We have spent years working with young riders from the grassroots to continue forming motorcycling champions and after having worked with Izan Guevara for three years, we are still amazed by his speed and the way he rides. After being champion with us in the Moto3 Junior World Championship, this year he is fighting for the Moto3 title, in only his second season in the World Championship. His adaptation and his progression are unstoppable and we believe that he can do very well in Moto2.”

Izan Guevara: “I am very happy to be able to announce that in 2023 I will compete in Moto2. I think it's the perfect time to make the jump, and to do it with the GASGAS Aspar Team is also great. We have grown together since the Junior World Championship and now we are fighting for the Moto3 title. I feel at home in the GASGAS Aspar Team and I know that together we can continue to achieve great results in the future.”
