Aleix Espargaro has forearm surgery days out from Round 1

Aprilia's main man is in a race to be fit for the opening round of 2023 after going under the knife following issues at the Portimao Test

Aprilia Racing's Aleix Espargaro is in a race to be fit for the opening round of the 2023 MotoGP™ World Championship after rectifying right forearm issues on Tuesday morning. The Catalan went under the knife in Barcelona, Spain after suffering from fibrosis at the Portimao Test over the weekend.

His test schedule over the weekend was heavily affected by the injury issues and the 33-year-old confirmed on Sunday evening he would head to the Hospital Universitari Dexeus for further checks on Monday. But he's now undergone surgery just 12 days out from the opening Grand Prix of 2023 getting underway as he looks to improve on last year's fourth place finish in the World Championship.

Speaking on social media, Espargaro said: "Surgery done! I had a lot of pressure in my forearm, so everything is released and I'm now ready to race!"
