Alonso in charge on Friday morning ahead of Ortola

Moto3™ kicked off an intense weekend at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, with David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) starting his weekend in style. The #80 improved throughout the session, ending Friday morning with an unbelievable 1:46.838. The Colombian destroyed the lap record and was 0.300s clear of MT Helmets – MSI’s Ivan Ortola who had a solid start to the morning in second and was provisionally at the top of the time sheets. Another rider who briefly stole top honours was Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo), ending Free Practice in third after setting 16 laps across the session.

Ryusei Yamanaka added to what was a successful start to the weekend for the MT Helmets – MSI team, finishing fourth – less than a second from the top spot. Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) rounded out an impressive top five, after showing a strong pace throughout the session. Further down the order, Red Bull GASGAS Tech3’s Daniel Holgado had a tough morning down in 18^th – over two seconds adrift from Alonso. Noah Dettwiler (CIP Green Power) also had a tough morning after becoming the first crasher of the weekend, losing the front at turn five in the opening 10 minutes. Angel Piqueras (Leopard Racing) was the next victim of the tricky turn five, falling with less than 25 minutes to go in the session.
