It was a lap record pace in the opening Moto2™ session of the weekend at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, with Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) storming to the top of the time sheets – showing consistent pace. Gonzalez ended the session with a remarkable 1:42.860, ending Free Practice ahead of MB Conveyors SpeedUp’s Alonso Lopez. It was tight at the top with the #21 a mere 0.182s adrift from the top spot. Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team), also had a strong start to the weekend in third position at the iconic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya - briefly occupying the top spot.

In fourth was Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team), who entered the weekend just seven points adrift from the Championship lead. The American was ahead of Ai Ogura (MT Helmets – MSI), who rounded out the top five. Further down the order Mario Aji (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) and KLINT Forward Factory Team’s Jorge Navarro had their own crashes early on. There would then be further drama later on after a crash from Zonta Van Den Goorbergh (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP) and the Championship leader Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI) in the final five minutes.
