The 2025 MotoGP™ season sparked into life in Thailand, with a dream weekend for Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) in his debut weekend with the factory Ducati squad. The #93 impressed in the opening Grand Prix of the season, securing pole position before dominating both the Sprint and the Grand Prix. His brother Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) and teammate Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) joined him on a star-studded podium.
Marc Marquez made it a weekend to remember, matching former teammate Dani Pedrosa’s record of 112 podiums in MotoGP. He also made history as the first rider to win on his debut Grand Prix with the factory Ducati squad since Casey Stoner in 2007. Stoner went on to claim nine more victories that season, bagging Ducati’s first MotoGP World Championship in the process. With the 2025 season now underway, all eyes are on what Marquez can achieve in the factory team.
Marc Marquez joins an illustrious list of names who have won with the factory squad. The first of which arrived in 2003 when Loris Capirossi secured the Italian factory’s first win in the premier class at the Catalan GP. There would be a further three-year wait until Troy Bayliss took his first victory in red after an unforgettable one-off appearance at the Valencia GP in 2006.
Stoner was next before the Bologna-based factory had to wait until 2016 for their next winners. Andrea Iannone would strike gold at the Austrian GP, ending their winless drought before teammate Andrea Dovizioso found his first victory later in the season. It was the start of a new era for the factory Ducati team, with winning becoming a more regular occurrence as Jorge Lorenzo and Danilo Petrucci claimed their first P1 with the factory team in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
Since then, Jack Miller and Francesco Bagnaia cemented their places in Ducati history, each grabbing their first victory in 2021. Enea Bastianini was next to triumph in 2023, becoming the 10th Official Ducati rider to win a Grand Prix before it was Marc Marquez’ time to shine at an unforgettable 2025 Thai GP.
With 21 rounds left in 2025, plenty of storylines, battles and rivalries are ahead. Will Marquez and Bagnaia add to their ever-growing win tally this year? Follow the entire season on motogp.com!
