History was made at the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Grand Prix of Spain as Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) claimed a magnificent maiden MotoGP victory, but there is more to it than that. With this famous home turf win, Alex and his brother Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) became the first siblings to both stand on the top step of a MotoGP podium.

It was a stunning ride from the #73 who never looked back after snatching the lead from Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP). A dream win in front of over 100,000 fans in Jerez of that there is no doubt, and one that took him back to the summit of the MotoGP Championship heading to Le Mans. 

Alex’s victory was a long time coming, with his last Grand Prix victory being at the 2019 Czech Republic Grand Prix in Moto2. However, it's not an unusual sight for the Marquez name to reign supreme in MotoGP - as most of you will know - with Marc notching up 65 MotoGP victories since his first at the 2013 Americas GP. And now, after Alex's win, the duo stand alone as the only brothers to both win a MotoGP Grand Prix. That's some achievement. 

However, it was mixed emotions for the brother donning red on Sunday, who crashed at Turn 8 on Lap 3, eventually finishing P12 after an impressive comeback ride.

Discussing his emotions after the Grand Prix, Marc Marquez said: "It’s the only reason that I have a smile today, I'm super happy and proud of him. He has worked super hard to win a race in MotoGP as it was one of his targets for his career. He won the race and is leading the Championship again, he is riding in an amazing way, so I am proud of my brother."

After etching their names into the history books, the Marquez brothers now gear up for a highly anticipated French GP - a round they'll land at knowing they're split by just one point in the title race.
