Jorge Martin (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) may still wonder at what might have been after a red flag cut the Moto3™ race short 16 laps in to the British GP - but the Spaniard still took his sixth podium finish of the season.
Starting from eighth on the grid, Martin quickly worked through the frontrunners to hold his planned position for a strategic final lap. Unfortunately, the race was then stopped by a Red Flag for an incident involving Bo Bendsneyder (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Juanfran Guevara (RBA BOE Racing Team). But the Spaniard took home the points necessary to retain a decent hold on his fourth overall in the Championship standings despite races missed after his crash in Germany – now 20 points in front of teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio as they head onto the latter's home turf at Misano.
Jorge Martin, P3: “We knew we had something more today and the result was not what we were hoping for. After a difficult start I had a good comeback and my pace was great. A real shame about the Red Flag, because we had a strategy with my telemetry guy to be third on the last lap. It all went according to plan, except for the Red Flag. Still, it’s a podium finish we took despite the pain being higher than in Austria. Now we have two weeks to rest and then Misano, where we want to and must do better.”
