Protégé Pecco: another VR46 Academy rider hits the big time

The Telegraph chats to Bagnaia about Rossi, his bike beginnings, the VR46 Academy and more ahead of his maiden premier class voyage

Francesco Bagnaia (Alma Pramac Racing) is the latest VR46 Academy rider to make the jump from Moto2™ to MotoGP™ and ahead of his rookie season in the premier class, British publication The Telegraph have published an article surrounding ‘Pecco’, talking to him about Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP), the VR46 Academy, his bike beginnings and more.

“I wasn’t riding that much on the minibike; maybe once or twice a week, sometimes even twice a month…and that was ok for,” said the reigning Moto2™ World Champion, talking about riding a bike in his grandfather’s garden. “It was incredible that I was able to touch the ground with my knee straight away, I was thrilled and that was the start of it for me.”

Bagnaia then talks about the VR46 Academy and the riders’ relationship with Rossi: “The difference between the Academy and the other guys in GP is that we are together every day, and also with Valentino, who helps so much…it’s like a real friendship, we know him intimately.”
