Yamaha dominate Sepang front row

Quartararo, Viñales and Morbidelli give the Iwata factory a qualifying 1-2-3 for the first time since Le Mans 2017

Thanks to Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT), Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) and Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT) turning up the wick in Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix, Yamaha have claimed their first front-row lockout since the 2017 French GP.

Yamaha - in particular home team Petronas Yamaha SRT - have been in formidable form all weekend at the Sepang International Circuit. FP1 and FP2 belonged to Quartararo as the rookie sensation set new lap records in both of Friday’s sessions. Then, teammate Morbidelli came out all guns blazing on Saturday to head FP3 and FP4, before Quartararo took a stunning fifth pole of the season ahead of his Yamaha counterparts.

Is the win between the leading qualifying trio? If a Petronas machine tops Warm Up then the home team could be on for a perfect weekend in their backyard, but Viñales is going to take some stopping – as he did in Australia. Tune into the Malaysian GP battle at 15:00 local time (GMT+8) on Sunday afternoon.
