Lopez joins Estrella Galicia 0,0 alongside Canet in 2018

Junior Team rider makes the move up to the Moto3™ World Championship

Spaniard Alonso Lopez will be Aron Canet’s teammate next season at Estrella Galicia 0,0 in the Moto3™ World Championship, with the Spaniard the next rider to graduate from the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3™ Junior World Championship. A race winner this season already at Le Mans, Catalunya and Jerez, the Junior Team EG 0,0 rider is currently fourth in the standings in the Junior World Championship following a top five finish in the standings last season.

Alonso Lopez: “I’m really happy about the opportunity to move up to the World Championship that Estrella Galicia 0,0 have given me. My first goal is to fight for the runner up spot in the FIM CEV Repsol at Cheste in a couple of weeks. I will try and achieve that as a ‘present’ for my team for the confidence they’ve given me to learn and keep growing as a rider in the World Championship next season.”

Emilio Alzamora, Team Principal: “We’re very happy to announce that Alonso Lopez will be part of the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team alongside Aron Canet in the World Championship next season. Alonso has developed as a rider from the base of our pyramid structure, going through the School Team, winning the PreMoto3 Spanish Championship in 2015 and then moving into the Junior World Championship in 2016 to continue his growth. It’s very positive to see how riders from our cantera make use of the opportunities it gives them and how, thanks to their constant effort, they keep moving through each category. We think Alonso has a lot of talent, maturity and the necessary aptitude to make this step already. Alonso is having a very good year in the FIM CEV Repsol, he’s working very hard, he has progressed race by race and we think it’s the right moment for him to continue his progression in the World Championship. Now we must prioritise the end of the FIM CEV Repsol, where Alonso is fighting in the Junior Team to take the runner up spot in 2017.”
