The Japanese rider made sure that the Sepang International Circuit squad have now topped three sessions in a row across all three classes, following Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) and Jonas Folger’s (Petronas Sprinta Racing) exploits in MotoGP™ and Moto2™ FP1.
Despite ending second quickest in FP2, Kornfeil was edged out of the top three overall by Marcos Ramirez (Leopard Racing) thanks to the Spaniard’s FP1 lap time. Honda Team Asia’s Kaito Toba completes the lightweight top five at the close of day one, 0.288 adrift of his compatriot at the top of the timesheets, after finding a further 1.2 seconds from this morning.
Sterilgarda Max Racing Team’s Aron Canet ended the day sixth fastest after going three-quarters of a second quicker than in FP1. Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alsonso Lopez ended seventh, less than a tenth ahead of Petronas Sprinta Racing’s John McPhee, who was unable to improve on this morning but stayed inside the top eight. Rounding out the top ten at the close of day one were VNE Snipers’ Romano Fenati and SKY Racing Team VR46’s Dennis Foggia.
