Inclement weather expected for Motegi qualifying day

Rain is on the way in Japan as all three classes are set to tackle wet conditions on Saturday morning

Dry weather may have prevailed on Friday at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan but the MotoGP™, Moto2™ and Moto3™ riders are set to be greeted with inclement weather on Saturday morning ahead of qualifying.

According to weather forecasts, all three FP3 sessions look set to be almost 100% wet. This means the times from Friday are set to decide who enters the respective Q2 sessions automatically, but there is some good news: the rain is meant to clear in the afternoon, meaning there could be some dry weather qualifying runs.

Being the last sessions of the day, MotoGP™ Q1 and Q2 may well be dry, but there is no guarantee. So, as long as conditions are safe, all the riders will be heading out for some wet weather practise in FP3 to get in the groove ahead of Japanese GP qualifying.

Wet conditions always spring some surprises, so make sure you don’t miss any of the action on Saturday at the Twin Ring Motegi. MotoGP™ FP3 begins at 10:50 local time (GMT+9), with Q1 and Q2 kicking off at 15:05 and 15:30 local time.
