Gaviota Angel Nieto Team’s Albert Arenas sat at the top of the timesheets during Sunday’s opening session at the Shell Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix. After three consecutive podium finishes, including victory in Thailand, the Spaniard will be aiming for a clean sweep of podium finishes at the flyaway rounds from fourth on the grid later today.
Arenas finished two tenths clear of today’s polesitter Leopard Racing’s Marcos Ramirez and Kömmerling Gresini Moto3’s Gabriel Rodrigo. This morning’s top five was completed by Mugen Race’s Andrea Migno and the newly crowned Moto3™ World Champion Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Leopard Racing).
Ayumu Sasaki, donning a special livery for Petronas Sprinta Racing’s home round, crashed out unhurt at Turn 5 and BOE Skull Rider Mugen Race’s Makar Yurchenko also had a tip-off after receiving a firm nudge from CIP Green Power’s Tom Booth-Amos. The lightweight class gets things started at the Shell Malaysian Grand Prix at 12:00 local time (GMT+8) and is, without doubt, not to be missed.
