Red Bull Ring receives Best Grand Prix trophy in Kitzbühel

The legendary Hahnenkamm hosts the handover after Austria was named the Best Grand Prix of 2019

When Austria returned to the MotoGP™ calendar in 2016, the event was named Best Grand Prix – and three years later the myWorld Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich reclaimed the honour as the Red Bull Ring was once again voted best of the season by IRTA, ratified by the Grand Prix Commission.

On Friday, the award for Best Grand Prix was officially handed over in Austria, with Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta personally presenting the trophy to Red Bull CEO Dietrich Mateschitz. The town of Kitzbühel proved the perfect backdrop for the event, just as another incredible Austrian sporting event gets underway: the legendary Hahnenkamm race weekend.

Dietrich Mateschitz, CEO of Red Bull: "MotoGP is absolutely everything motorsport should be for me. That we have managed within a few years to twice win the award for the best Grand Prix of this incredible racing series fills us with pride and is a recognition of all the hard work that goes into the race weekends. An even greater reward for us is being able to excite so many fans - those at the Red Bull Ring and also those watching live at home on ServusTV. Extending the contract of the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg shows our long-term commitment to this fantastic sport and shows just how much we appreciate Carmelo Ezpeleta."

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports: "I am very happy to see Austria once again voted the Best Grand Prix and to be here in this beautiful country to present the award directly to Dietrich Mateschitz. The Red Bull Ring is a world class facility in an amazing location, with great facilities and staff who make it a pleasure to race there. I think everyone who visits Spielberg is a huge fan of the track and the Red Bull Ring really deserves this award.

"Spectacular races have been a byword for Austria since we returned to race in this part of the world and we are all very much looking forward to coming back again this year!"
