Moto2™ and Moto3™ break Qatar top speed records

Martin and Masia clocked 296.7km/h and 245.5km/h respectively as 2020 gets off to a flyer

The Moto2™ and Moto3™ riders have made a flying start to 2020 as Jorge Martin (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) break the respective Losail International Circuit top speed records in both classes.

In Moto2™, Martin clocked 296.7km/h down the main straight before hitting the brakes into Turn 1, which beats Xavi Vierge’s 2019 294.4km/h effort on the EG 0,0 Marc VDS Triumph machine. In the lightweight class, Masia powered his Honda to 245.5km/h on Friday to knock Bo Bendsneyder’s 240.3km/h in 2016 off this particular perch.

In addition, it’s also worth noting how competitive the Moto2™ class was on Friday in Qatar. The gap between Roberts’ new lap record and 18th place Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) was just 0.869 seconds.

2020 has arrived, and it’s arrived in style. Stay tuned to see the Moto2™ and Moto3™ riders continue to light up Losail on Saturday and Sunday, as the first qualifying day of the new campaign looms.
