Marc Marquez ensured he will participate in the battle for pole upon his return to MotoGP™ after being quickest in Q1 at the Portuguese GP. The Repsol Honda rider had just four hundredths to spare over Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar).
The two World Champions engaged in an early bout of mind games too, playing some cat and mouse as Marquez stalked the incumbent Champion throughout the session. It was disappointment for Pol Espargaro (Repsol Honda Team) who failed to escape Q1 once again, nor Valentino Rossi (Petronas Yamaha SRT) who will start from P17 on the grid on Sunday.
Q2 is just around the corner with 12 riders set to do battle for pole in Portimao.
