Quartararo leads Viñales in FP4 crashfest

The factory Yamahas looked good once again in Jerez as a number of riders tumbled into the gravel ahead of qualifying

It was a Yamaha one-two in FP4 at the Spanish GP as Fabio Quartararo heads Maverick Viñales (both Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) on the timesheets thanks to a 1:37.341. The duo lead Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) as the premier class sought some final improvements before the all-important qualifying in Jerez.

It proved an attritional session, with a variety of riders finding themselves in the gravel trap. Aleix Espargaro twice had to dust himself down after incidents at Turns 2 & 13. His Aprilia Racing Gresini teammate Lorenzo Savadori also had to pick himself up at Turn 9. Rins took a tumble at Turn 5, while Pol Espargaro had a carbon copy of Repsol Honda teammate Marc Marquez FP3 crash at Turn 7. Danilo Petrucci joined in on the fun late in the session also, with the Tech 3 rider another to fall victim to Turn 2.

Thankfully, all riders are ok and will take full part in their respective qualifying sessions, which get underway soon.
