Viñales fastest in FP1 as MotoGP™ hits Mugello

Yamaha’s Spaniard led the way on Friday morning at the Italian GP from Zarco and Rins

New father Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) hit the ground running at the Gran Premio d'Italia Oakley after topping FP1 with a 1:46.593, the Spaniard led Johann Zarco (Pramac Racing) by 0.209s. After an early off-track excursion, Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Alex Rins rounded out the top three.

Reigning World Champion Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Italy’s Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT) completed the first top five of the weekend in the premier class, as the riders returned to Mugello after its absence in 2020.

The sun is shining in Tuscany and MotoGP™ FP2 is coming up this afternoon at 14:10 local time (GMT+2).
