Aldeguer sets wet weather pace, Dixon top overall

The Spaniard was fastest in FP3 but a wet Mandalika Circuit sees no improvements made from Friday’s running

Fermin Alduguer (MB Conveyors Speed Up) was the rider to beat in tricky, wet conditions on Saturday morning at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, but it’s Jake Dixon (Inde GASAGS Aspar Team) who leads the Moto2™ field into qualifying. Rainfall ahead of FP3s in Mandalika meant no improvements were made from Friday afternoon’s action, meaning Celestino Vietti (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) and Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) close out the top three on the combined standings.

Aldeguer 1.4s clear in FP3

It was an incredibly impressive session for the reigning Moto2™ European Champion. Aldeguer finished 1.4s quicker than both Augusto Fernandez (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Dixon, a nice confidence boost for the riders up the sharp end if rain effects play in qualifying. However, the dry times from FP2 settle the automatic Q2 order, with forecasts suggesting the rain might have stopped for the day.

The automatic Q2 order

Behind the leading trio comes Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in P4, with his teammate Augusto Fernandez completing the top five. Aldeguer is sixth ahead of Albert Arenas (Inde GASGAS Aspar Team), Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team), Aron Canet (Flexbox HP40) and Manuel Gonzalez (Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team). Jorge Navarro (Flexbox HP40) missed out on a top 10 by just 0.002s, the Spaniard is P11 and safely into Q2, alongside Cameron Beaubier (American Racing), Marcos Ramirez (MV Agusta Forward Racing) and Romano Fenati (MB Conveyors Speed Up).

The likes of Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) and Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team) will need to come through Q1 in order to challenge for a good grid slot, so don’t miss Moto2™ qualifying in Mandalika at 13:25 local time (GMT+8).
