Garcia claims pole and completes a perfect Saturday in Barcelona

Moto2™ World Championship leader, Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI) will start the Catalan GP from pole position after setting a brilliant 1:41.894 in the opening stages of qualifying. The #3 was 0.240s clear of Fermin Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp), who pushed hard on his final run but was unable to match the pace of Garcia. Rounding off the front row after battling through Q1 will be Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo) – a further 0.048s slower than Aldeguer.

A strong Q1 with early crucial times in Q2

It was fast and furious in Q1 it was Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP), Aron Canet (Fantic Racing), Vietti, and Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP), who managed to fight it out of Q2. This led to a competitive battle for pole position with Lopez leading early on before a stunning lap from Garcia with 10 minutes left on the clock.

Garcia’s time would stand into the last five minutes when the riders left the pitlane for one final attempt in qualifying. Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team) soon improved from 16^th to eighth with Canet leaping into the front row. There was also a moment between Alonso Lopez (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) and Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™), with Lopez showing his frustration.

17 riders within a second further down

Starting further down the field will be Canet, who heads the second row of the grid in fourth position. Like Vietti, the #44 used his knowledge from Q1, to secure fourth on the grid on his penultimate lap. QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™ duo, Albert Arenas and Gonzalez will start from fifth and sixth on the grid – rounding out the second row. Arenas and Gonzalez added to the team’s confidence ahead of the Catalan GP.

Daniel Muñoz (Pertamina Mandalika GAS UP Team) continues to impress in Barcelona, qualifying in seventh position on the #17 machine. Muñoz is ahead of some big names on the grid such as Lopez, who starts alongside in eighth. Roberts rounds off the third row of the grid and the top nine positions, in what is building to be yet another unpredictable weekend in Moto2™.

Further down the order, Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) will start from 14^th on the grid with work to do on Sunday. Also hoping for a strong result on Sunday is Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia), who starts down in 16^th – less than a second away from pole position.

The next time that Moto2™ will be on track will be for the Catalan GP on Sunday at 12:15 local time (UTC +2).
