Malaysia confirmed on MotoGP calendar from 2027–2031

Fans can look forward to a further five editions of the Malaysian Grand Prix at spectacular Sepang

MotoGP will continue to race at Petronas Sepang International Circuit from 2027 to 2031, with a new contract recently approved by the Government of Malaysia. Malaysia has welcomed the most exciting sport on Earth since 1991, with Petronas Sepang International Circuit hosting since 1999 – bringing the sport right to the doors of capital city Kuala Lumpur.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari said, "We are delighted that the Government has granted full approval at the Cabinet Meeting on 15 April 2026 for the renewal of MotoGP Malaysia from 2027 to 2031. This renewal goes beyond securing Malaysia’s place on the MotoGP global calendar. It reflects our commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s position as a leading motorsports destination while creating opportunities through economic growth, talent development and industry expansion. More importantly, MotoGP Malaysia has become a platform that brings Malaysians together, strengthens our sense of national pride and continues to stand as Malaysia’s longest-running international sporting event since its first edition in 1991."

MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta added, "Malaysia is an important market for MotoGP, where we have a strong fanbase and have seen the positive economic impact of MotoGP increase year-on-year. Now, we aim to grow both exponentially. Sepang is a fantastic home for our sport – well-connected to one of the world’s truly global cities: Kuala Lumpur, the host city for our unforgettable 2026 Season Launch. Great racing, local passion and international appeal create an unforgettable event every year in Malaysia and we look forward to returning until 2031."

MotoGP’s presence in Malaysia has grown exponentially since 1991, with the Malaysian Grand Prix now one of the biggest sporting events in Southeast Asia. The 2025 edition recorded the highest attendance in its history, with a total of 190,977 spectators, demonstrating the event’s ever-increasing appeal among both local fans and international visitors. The 2026 MotoGP Season Launch further underlined the strength and importance of the market for MotoGP, attracting tens of thousands of fans to get a taste of elite international sport in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

MotoGP is not only an international sporting event but also a key economic driver, generating employment opportunities, boosting tourism and contributing revenue to local industries. It represents a strategic investment that delivers tangible returns to the national economy while creating even greater opportunities for local talents.
