Testing: how many days do each team have left?

Crunching the numbers to see who’s got what left after round five of the season

Testing is a vital part of a MotoGP™ team’s program but during the season, the number of unofficial testing days the teams are allowed is limited – unless a manufacturer has concessions.

What does that mean? The Ducati, Repsol Honda and Movistar Yamaha MotoGP teams are only permitted to have five test days during the season. Due to concessions, Aprilia Racing Team Gresini, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and Team Suzuki Ecstar are allowed an unlimited amount of test days. Then, the rest of the teams are allowed a total of six unofficial test days.

So far, both Ducati and Movistar Yamaha have used three of their five allocated test days. Ducati were in Jerez for two days at the end of November, and then went to Mugello this month for a single day. Yamaha instead travelled to Sepang at the end of November, but also took part in the day at Mugello.

Meanwhile, Repsol Honda have only used two of their five permitted days; one in Jerez at the end of March, and then most recently, again, they were on track at Mugello this month.

Now it’s time for the grid to return to the Tuscan venue for the GP after testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for two days to trial the new layout and asphalt – neither of which days count as part of the permitted allocation.
