MotoGP™ and Two Wheels for Life: Racing with Purpose

Two Wheels for Life, the official charity of MotoGP™, raises funds to deliver vital healthcare in Africa through unique MotoGP events and fan experiences.

As the official charity of both MotoGP™ and the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme), Two Wheels for Life raises money to provide vital healthcare in Africa by organising unique events, giving MotoGP fans access to exclusive experiences and sought-after memorabilia.

Thanks to the generosity of MotoGP’s riders, teams, stakeholders and fans, Two Wheels for Life raises hundreds of thousands of pounds per year, to make sure that healthcare workers can reach people in some of the poorest and most remote parts of Africa. The work on the ground in Africa is carried out by Two Wheels for Life’s sister operation Riders for Health.

Both Riders for Health and Two Wheels for Life have been working closely with MotoGP™ for many years, harnessing the enormous goodwill of the international motorcycle community to generate much needed funds, making sure healthcare is made available to the people who need it most and saving millions of lives in the process.

What Does Two Wheels for Life Do?

The official MotoGP™ charity, Two Wheels for Life, raises funds through a series of regular physical events hosted at MotoGP race weekends and also through online auctions and initiatives.

The MotoGP riders and teams are closely involved and the money they raise - thanks to contributions from MotoGP fans - helps to ensure vulnerable people in Malawi, Lesotho, The Gambia and Nigeria can access life-saving healthcare services, no matter how far from a health centre they live.

The locally-led and managed programmes which Two Wheels for Life support, working in conjunction with their partner organisation Riders for Health, provide reliable transport systems to health workers. Off-road motorcycles are often used by Riders for Health because they are uniquely suited to the job and environment in Africa.

Riders for Health’s first ‘Day of Champions’ fundraising event was held at Brands Hatch in 1989 and the organisation soon began work in Lesotho and The Gambia.

The Day of Champions events have been consistently hosted at the British Grand Prix through the 1990s and onwards. From 1999 onwards, Riders for Health’s relationship with MotoGP™ became even closer and the fundraising activity at races has expanded to be held at many other European Grands Prix in recent years.

Former rider and MotoGP Legend Randy Mamola is one of the co-founders of Riders for Health. He has visited the charity’s team in Africa many times, whilst many other former riders such as Kevin Schwantz, Alex Criville, Kenny Roberts Jnr, Sete Gibernau and Marco Melandri have also travelled to Africa to support the Riders for Health operation in person.

In 2016, Two Wheels for Life was created as the fundraising and advocacy side of Riders for Health.

MotoGP’s Support: From Track to Community

Andrea Coleman is the founder and CEO of Two Wheels for Life. She is also co-founder of Riders for Health with Mamola and Barry Coleman. She explains the story behind the organisations and their close link with MotoGP™, saying, “From the start we have wanted to bring the fans closer to the heroes of their sport. We wanted the fans and the teams and riders to have fun while the money raised is used to save lives in Africa - using motorcycles.”

“We have always wanted to show that motorcycles and their riders are fast and glamorous but that a motorcycle can also be perfect for crossing a desert or in the mountains to deliver healthcare to isolated communities.”

“Dorna have been by our side since 1999, allowing us to give that access to the fans and to be part of the fabric of MotoGP. Without MotoGP, we could not have achieved so much and we believe that MotoGP is unique in international sport for enabling a whole system for saving lives.”

The 2024 Day of Champions at the British Grand Prix was a huge success as the event helped raise £246,000 for Two Wheels for Life. The 2025 GP of Champions – the new weekend-long format for the flagship fundraising event of MotoGP’s official charity – raised around £150,000 during the British GP. Overall the Day of Champions-style events have raised more than £4,000,000 for Riders for Health over 34 years.

Real Impact: How Donations by MotoGP™ fans Save Lives

Every single pound, euro or dollar raised by Two Wheels for Life through MotoGP™ supports the Riders for Health programmes in Malawi, Lesotho, The Gambia and Nigeria.

These programmes ensure that health workers get adequate motorcycle training, are equipped with all the kit they need to do their job and ensure they have fully-fuelled, well maintained motorcycles and other vehicles that can get to the remote areas and provide healthcare to those who need it most.

Riders for Health workers can therefore reliably get out to villages to care for babies, children and the elderly, and test results can be taken to labs and returned swiftly for quick diagnosis of diseases.

Jogob Gassama, Community Health Worker for Riders for Health, The Gambia, explains, “In my community, I am covering 10 villages and living in one. I screen for children who are malnourished, and then we give food to them at our level, and for those who are less than six months old, we refer them to a health facility. In my job, reaching out to people is fundamental, it is very important. If I didn't have a motorbike I wouldn’t be able to do it.”

Che Jallow, Programme Director for Riders for Health, The Gambia adds: “Imagine having a fleet of motorcycles. Well-managed, well-serviced, well-maintained, and adequately fuelled. By supporting us, you are supporting our people in the country. All the money coming from Two Wheels For Life supports our programme and that support directly saves lives.”
