Derbi factory team launch new colors for the new season

Derbi Racing Team unveiled in Jerez on Thursday its new sponsor for the 2001 season: cigarrette manufacturer LM. After two successful seasons in the 125 class Derbi has consolidated itself as one of the most powerful teams in MotoGP, with Japanese rider Youichi Ui as its main star.

Ui finished runner up last season and the Spanish manufacturer intends to conquer the World Championship this year. To achieve this goal Derbi will have the support of cigarrette manufacturer LM, as announced yesterday on the top floor of the Jerez control tower. The new team will be named Derbi LM Team.

Team manager Giampiero Sacchi, along with both Derbi riders Youichi Ui and Spaniard Pablo Nieto, unveiled the new colors of the bikes, which combine the traditional red with a bright blue. Ui will keep his number 41 and Pablo Nieto his number 22. ´I hope everybody will see us both on the track and on TV, but especially on the podium´, Pablo Nieto joked.

´We’re very happy to receive LM´s support´, Giampiero Sacchi said. ´This proves that our project is a winning project and that people believe in us´. On Derbi’s plans for this 2001, Sacchi revealed that the team is working to produce a brand new engine my mid-season. ´We ended the year very close to winning but we lacked a little luck. I hope this year will be different.´
