Petronas Sprinta Yamaha TVK secure best-ever result in Mugello

The Petronas Sprinta Yamaha TVK outfit enjoyed their best weekend´s work ever in Mugello after both their riders, Argentine Sebastian Porto and Malaysian Shahrol Yuzy, finished Sunday´s quarter-litre class race inside the top ten. In a category dominated by the armada of Aprilias, the Yamaha set-up have been making steady progress this season and are now beginning to make an impact in the upper echelons of the class.

Twenty three year-old Porto has been consistency itself so far this term, scoring points in every round of the championship, but he raised his game a level further in Mugello by achieving his best-ever qualifying finish. He lined up second on the grid after narrowly missing out on pole to Franco Battaini. In the race itself he came home seventh, the second time he has done so this year, as well as two eighth places and a fifth. Yuzy claimed his best result of the current campaign, and the joint best of his career in Mugello finishing ninth. Despite the positive nature of the weekend, both riders remained convinced there was more to come this season.

Porto, who was starting his 98th Grand Prix in Mugello said, ´I am disappointed with this position because I did start well this time. Unfortunately, I had some problems with my rear tyres, and I think we chose badly as after about 5 laps the bike began to slide a lot. I tried to push more, but did not want to take the risk of crashing. So I just tried to maintain my riding and finish the race with points´.

Team-mate Yuzy was more upbeat and commented, ´I must thank my mechanics and team for the good set-up and tyres choice. I had a good start and tried to follow Sebastian who was in front of me. However, I did not feel confident enough to push more, therefore, my position dropped. I tried to keep constant lap-times so that I could maintain this 9th position. Anyway, I am happy to finish 9th position here, and hope we can continue to keep this level of performance´.
