Barbera and Di Meglio taking practical approach

Avintia Racing pair Hector Barbera and Mike di Meglio finished the Qatar test 12th and 14th respectively and they believe their Avintia GP14 Kawasaki machine will evolve as the new season progresses.

The riders worked hard with their new package, looking for the right set-up with their Showa suspension, Avintia chassis and Brembo brakes.

“I’m happy because the bike is new and I’ve only had two tests on it,” said Barbera as testing concluded. “The set up for this track is not too bad, but I feel like I need more testing and more days of practice.”

“The team is better this year with new mechanics and technicians and I have more support, but it’s going to be difficult because my opponents have Ducati, Honda and Yamaha bikes and more experience.”

Di Meglio added, “We’ve found a not bad front geometry setting and we also worked on rear grip. We did a race simulation and we know where we need to improve.”

“We need more time to be ready but I think the bike will change during the year anyway. At the beginning of the season we need to keep calm and do more with what we already have. The bike will improve. We need to finish races and gather important information for the team.”
