Lowes recovers from highside to head Moto2™ FP1

Lowes recovers from highside to head Moto2™ FP1

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes set the fastest time during Free Practice 1 at the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas.

In a wet first Moto2™ Free practice session of the weekend, which saw a number of riders including Tito Rabat and Alex Marquez crash, it was Lowes who led the way. With riders taking time to adjust to the damp conditions there were big differences in lap times, with over 10 seconds separating the field.

Lowes recovered from an early highside at turn 15 to set a 2’26.356, finishing ahead of the Ajo Motorsport Kalex of Frenchman Johann Zarco (+0.289s) and Franco Morbidelli (+0.523s) on the Italtrans Racing Team Kalex.

Anthony West (+0.585s) showed his prowess in the wet once more to finish in 4th place on the QMMF Racing Team Speed Up bike, in front of his teammate Julian Simon (+0.590s). Rounding out the provisional second row was the Tech 3 bike of German Marcel Schrotter (+0.849s).
