Kent: “I brought it home safely so I’m really happy'

Danny Kent dominated today’s Moto3™ Grand Prix of The Americas to take the win for Leopard Racing.

It was a lonely ride for Danny Kent from the UK, who started at the top spot of the grid for the third time in his career, but the Honda rider’s display today in Austin was more than clever. Just shortly before the lights went out he changed his strategy because there were still remaining some wet patches on the track, but as soon as he found his rhythm Kent took the lead in lap three and immediately pulled away.

Danny Kent:
“I’m very pleased with this victory, because we had a strong pace all weekend and I was able to keep this pace all time by myself. For today my strategy was to pull away straight from the beginning, but going on the grid I changed my plan due to the track conditions. After the start I dropped back a few positions, because there were some wet patches on the track. But step by step I went faster and faster and I was able to close the gap to the front group and take the lead. Next time I had a look on the board I saw eight-seconds and from this point on it was all about concentration and staying on the bike. Leading the field I could choose my line however I want in order to avoid to hit a damp patch on track. But I brought it home safely so I’m really happy, even more to win in this way and also for the lead in the world standings. But we need to keep our feet on the ground because there 16 races remaining. Since my last victory it took a while but better late than never. Finally thanks to my team for the incredible job they did all weekend, as well to all our sponsors. Today we’ve something to celebrate.”

Stefan Kiefer - Team manager:
“What a race today for Leopard Racing! Danny was victorious and Efren finished in third. But first congratulations to Danny, because he had a strong pace all weekend and today he was dominating the race as he could keep his performance from the previous days. His display was really, really amazing. Beyond that with Efren a second rider on the podium was a superb round up of this weekend. Especially after his practice results, we couldn’t expect a strong race like this. We knew that he is a racer and he will recover but we never had a finish like this in our mind. Unfortunately Hiroki crashed out. At the time of this incident he raced already in tenth position, some places ahead of Efren. So it’s twice bad luck because he was on the way to a strong result. But we’re extremely happy with today’s result anyway.”
