Viñales: “Catalunya is a really good track for me”

Championship leader ready to race at home – on a track that suits him well

The Championship was on Maverick Viñales’ (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) mind in Mugello, and the title leader brought it home in a solid second for 20 more points to add to his growing tally in 2017. Next up is the Spaniard’s home race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, with Viñales hailing from just up the coast.

The Movistar Yamaha rider is a race winner at the track in Moto3™, and also took his first MotoGP™ front row start at the venue in 2015 – making for good reading ahead of the race. The temptation to go for home glory will be strong, but Viñales says his focus is the podium – and the points.

Maverick Viñales: “Montmeló is a very special track for me as it is my home Grand Prix. It‘s a really good track for me and for my riding style and I hope also for the bike. We are in a good flow, having gained good momentum, so we are strong and confident and we have many set-ups in case one won't work and for that reason I arrive to Montmeló really motivated. We will try to obtain as many points as we can and we will try to stand on the podium at the end of it, but to do so we have to be smart, also with the tyre selection.”
