Guevara: “The recovery process is on the right track”

Mapfre Team Mahindra’s Juanfran Guevara is making a rapid recovery from his operation as he attempts to be fit for Le Mans.

On Monday, Mapfre Team Mahindra rider Juanfran Guevara underwent an operation on his right collarbone, to fix a plate and screws to the bone after he broke it last Sunday at Jerez. On Tuesday he began rehabilitation work. The reason for such haste was to prevent loss of mobility in his shoulder and also to avoid reflex contractures. Guevara is keen to recover as quickly as possible, to get ready for the next event on the calendar: The French GP.

Since Tuesday he has attended the Bonaque Lorca clinic every day in the morning and evening, where he has used magnet therapy to encourage callus generation and accelerate the bone knitting of his collarbone. Magnet therapy sessions also help to bond the collarbone with greater consistency. The MAPFRE Team Mahindra rider is undertaking a lot of stretching with his shoulder to maintain mobility and prevent contractures of his back. Throughout the week he has been examined by Dr. Juan Miguel Morilla at the Sports Medicine Clinic in Lorca. The physician has noted that the recovery process is going smoothly. Over the coming days Guevara will begin to introduce active exercise to gain power and strength, in order to be fit for Le Mans.

Juanfran Guevara:
"The operation on Monday was excellent, and thanks to this the recovery process is on the right track. It was crucial to act quickly to avoid losing any mobility. On Tuesday morning I started rehab and have been working with a physiotherapist twice a day. I have also visited the doctor twice this week. This week we are focusing on stretching and magnet therapy, and during the weekend or early next week we will introduce strength exercises. I no longer have pain in my collarbone day-to-day, so I'm very happy. We are working hard to accelerate my full recovery and try to get to the French Grand Prix."
