First Moto2™ victory of the season for Rabat in Mugello

Reigning Moto2™ World Champion Tito Rabat wins his first race of the season in his 150th GP start at the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM.

Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS’s Rabat took the lead on lap seven and managed to hold off the hard charging Championship leader Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport +0.308s) in the latter stages of the race, to take his first victory of 2015 and get his title defence back on track.

Technomag Racing Interwetten’s Dominique Aegerter took the final podium spot, with Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes two-tenths back in fifth. Luis Salom on the Paginas Amarillas HP40 Kalex was fifth ahead of Federal Oil Gresini Moto2’s Luis Salom in sixth.

Julian Simon (QMMF Racing Team), Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP), Axel Pons (AGR Team) and Lorenzo Baldassari (Athina Forward Racing) completed the top ten. A dramatic first few laps of the race saw Simone Corsi fall at turn 1 after contact from Sam Lowes, while Thomas Luthi also crashed out off the lead at Correntaio.
