Corsi ups the pace in FP3

Simone Corsi takes over at the front in Moto2™ at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya as lap times tumble.

FP3 provided slightly cooler temperatures than Friday afternoon, allowing Moto2™ riders to once again improve their lap time around the Catalunya track. All of the top seven riders now lapping under the 1’47 mark as riders prepare to battle for pole position later.

A lap of 1’46.60s, the fastest lap of the weekend so far, saw Simone Corsi (Athina Forward Racing) top the FP3 session. The Kalex mounted rider set his lap towards the end of practice. Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) was 0.063s behind Corsi with a 1’46.669 lap. The Frenchman was towards the top for the majority of the practice session. In third was Luis Salom (Paginas Amerillas HP 40) who lapped just 0.107s behind the leader, almost setting a fast lap towards the end.

The top five was completed by Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) and Jonas Folger (AGR Team). Rabat went to the pits on multiple occasions to change his rear tyre. Folger had been leading the FP3 session at points, but a last run of quick laps from other riders forced the German down the order.

Alex Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS), Lorenzo Baldassarri (Athina Forward Racing), Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team), Thomas Luthi (Derendiner Racing Interwetten) and Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) rounded out the top ten, all within 0.642s of Corsi at the front.

Julian Simon (QMMF Racing Team) fell at Turn 10, one of the most difficult points on the circuit for all the riders. Simon was unharmed.
